In the second half, the team shifted their approach, prioritizing shots in the restricted area over attempts beyond the arc. Jason explained that this adjustment stemmed from reading the defense and exploiting opportunities off closeouts. “You know, maybe we’re not shooting the three as well as we’d like; let’s try to attack guys off closeouts and see what we can get,” he said.
Jason’s two spectacular dunks electrified the game, but missing two critical free throws afterward posed a significant challenge. Acknowledging this lapse, Jason admitted, “Uncharacteristic, you know, missing those two free throws to put the game away. No excuse for that. But I’ve made countless plays to win games in my career, so I’m confident in those moments.”
Despite not performing at their peak, Jason stressed the value of winning close games, even when mistakes increase the difficulty. “You take a win any way you can get it. We’re at 28-11, third-best record in the league. We don’t necessarily feel great about how we’re playing, but we know we can play a lot better,” he mentioned.
Jason described the team’s recent stretch of games as “funky” but commended their ability to respond positively to errors during matches. “What I am happy about is how we responded tonight through missed free throws, turnovers, fouling guys—plays we normally don’t make. We didn’t let it snowball and just figured out a way to win,” he noted.
Acknowledging that opponents bring their best against his team, Jason reflected on the challenges of being a top contender. “Just expect everybody’s best shot. I remember my rookie year, playing the Warriors was a big deal because they won the championship. Just understanding that’s our place in this league now,” he explained.
Reflecting on his growth, Jason emphasized how his coaches push him to be versatile and impactful in all facets of the game. “The coaching staff and Joe, in particular, challenge me every single night to be as well-rounded and dominate as best as I can. It’s not just about how many points you score,” he said.
Jason addressed the impact of the crowd, noting their consistent energy and passion. “It’s never from a lack of energy in the building. We play in front of the best fans regardless of the game’s context, and they bring passion and energy,” he shared.
Effort and focus have been pivotal in the team’s recent performances, especially in close games. “We didn’t shoot the ball as well as we liked, had some turnovers, some missed layups, but we did a really good job tonight of not letting that impact us on the next play. We were getting back on defense, second and third chance efforts, rebounding, contesting shots,” Jason explained.
Jason’s ability to reflect on his performance and stay confident in high-pressure situations showcased his leadership. “I’ve made countless plays to win games over my career. Pretty confident in those moments. Smoked those two free throws, wasn’t happy about that, but we still won,” he stated.
As the season progresses, the team remains determined to improve and reach their full potential. With Jason’s insights and reflections driving their growth, they stay focused on their goals. “With a strong fan base and the determination to learn and grow, we know our best basketball is ahead of us,” Jason concluded.
