Small Plane Carrying Child Crashes in Philadelphia

Tragic Plane Crash in Philadelphia: Medical Transport Jet Explodes After Takeoff

Philadelphia, PA – A medical transport jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia moments after takeoff, erupting into a massive fireball and killing all six people on board. The fiery crash also injured several people on the ground, who were rushed to the hospital with severe burns.

Aircraft and Passengers

The aircraft, identified as a Learjet 55, was operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance. It had just departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri, with a final destination of Tijuana International Airport, Mexico.

On board were:

  • A young girl from Mexico receiving medical treatment in the U.S.
  • Her mother
  • A pilot and copilot
  • Two medical professionals

Sources confirm the child was receiving lifesaving treatment at Shriners Hospital and was on her way home.

Eyewitness Accounts and Aftermath

The crash occurred around 6:30 PM (ET), sending shockwaves through the densely populated area. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion and seeing flames engulf homes and vehicles.

“I watched the aircraft come down. Moments after takeoff, it just rapidly descended and exploded,” said one witness.

Security cameras in the neighborhood captured the jet’s final moments, showing it plummeting into a busy intersection near a shopping center. Several homes and cars were damaged by flying debris.

Response and Investigation

Emergency services rushed to the scene, working through the wreckage and flames to assist survivors. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker urged residents to avoid the area.

“If you see debris, do not touch anything. Call 911 immediately.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Officials have not yet confirmed any mechanical issues or possible human error.

Mexican Government Confirms Nationalities

The Mexican government has confirmed that all six victims were Mexican nationals. Their identities have not been released pending family notification.

This tragedy comes just two days after another aviation disaster in the U.S., where an American Airlines passenger plane collided with an Army helicopter near Washington, D.C., killing 67 people.

Authorities continue to assess the situation, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
