Notre Dame is moving on, and there’s so much to unpack. I’ve got a card full of things I hope we discuss. Let’s dive into it.
At some point, we have to talk about Abdul Carter—what an incredible player. But let’s start with how the game ended, the pivotal interception. Dusty, you saw something on that play. Walk us through it.
“This is trial run number two, so let’s see if we can get this going,” Dusty begins, referencing the dramatic final interception.
The pressure was on with everything on the line. Dal hadn’t played well leading into this last drive. It was a tie ball game, and this was his chance to position his team for a field goal, become the hero, and send his team to the National Championship.
Dusty breaks it down:
Notre Dame’s defense, known for leading college football in takeaways, proved why they were ranked so highly in this moment.
Riley Leonard’s second-half performance was nothing short of incredible. Coming into the game, the narrative was all about Drew Aller. Could he prove himself? Some even speculated about his potential as the number-one overall pick if he led his team to a title.
But Leonard flipped the script:
Despite losing key players like Benjamin Morrison and Riley Mills, Notre Dame’s “next man up” mentality carried them through. The depth and preparedness of the team speak volumes about Coach Marcus Freeman’s leadership.
Dusty summed it up perfectly:
“This team lives by the mantra of resiliency and toughness. Regardless of who’s out there, they find a way to get the job done. That’s why they’re now just one win away from a national championship.”
Abdul Carter stood out for Penn State, despite playing with a heavily taped arm. His speed, power, and relentlessness left a mark, even in defeat. “Whoever gets him at the next level is going to be very lucky,” Dusty said.
Dusty even drew comparisons to a former Penn State player who now wears No. 11 in the NFL:
“You can see some of the same traits. Carter left it all on the field tonight.”
Notre Dame’s journey to the National Championship is a testament to their depth, coaching, and determination. Whether it was the clutch performance by Riley Leonard or the game-sealing interception by Christian Gray, this team proved why they belong at the top.
