Bob Uecker’s Legacy

Yeah. There’s nobody like Bob. He’s one of the greatest of all time. It’s that kind of reaction we’ve been hearing all day ever since the news of Uecker’s passing broke this morning. Joining us live outside American Family Field, where a memorial at Uecker’s statue is still growing tonight.

Uecker as a Family Figure
I’ve heard the same thing all day long: that Bob Uecker was so much more than the voice of this team. To fans of this team, he really was like family. And if families wherever they were—at the porch, at the dinner table, in the car—pretty much all the time, those six months out of the year.

A Community Gathering to Honor Uecker

So tonight, it’s only fitting that so many of them come back here to be with him one more time as a beer vendor here for a few years. Leave it to Milwaukee to find the most appropriate way to say goodbye. I saw him a couple of times, and, you know, thanks for everything. And you’d say something to you, say thanks or whatever, and walk on. It was great.

Sharing Uecker’s Humor
At the base of Bob Uecker’s statue Thursday, fans reminisced. I remember his joke about statues over Miller Lights. He always talked about how they put one up of him in Saint Louis, but they had him batting the wrong way because it was Stan Musial. That’s great. I love that one.

A Growing Memorial

All day people have dropped flowers, candles, and more. Miller at this temporary memorial. He really was a part of the family. And we felt this morning, you felt this morning like we lost a family member. Thursday’s press conference peeled back the curtain some on Bob Uecker’s last years with the team.

Uecker’s Quiet Strength
Since 2023, he privately battled single-cell lung cancer. There were days he would go have radiation treatment and come to the ballpark and broadcast the game. It’s unbelievable. Back at the ballpark. I know it’s crazy, but I never thought I’d see this day where he wouldn’t be here.

A Community in Mourning
Fans make peace with the loss. That might just hurt more than any game Uecker called. Mr. Baseball. All right, Mr. Baseball. Good night, old friend. Good night, old friend. Those words keep. A lot of those cheers moments. Almost this kind of quiet winter tailgate. And really just the way that fans know how to say goodbye.

Planned Tributes and Celebration of Life

Speaking of, the Brewers are going to plan some sort of tribute to Uecker during the season this summer. The Brewers add they are working on a public celebration of life. When we get details on that, we’ll pass it to you. For now, we are live outside American Family Field.

A Personal Connection to Milwaukee
In a city that is nicknamed Small Waukee, it seems like so many people have just a story of a meeting in a grocery store or passing by in a tailgate. And there’s a sense of sadness tonight, but also a celebration that we got him for so long.

A Lifetime of Impact
Yeah, there really is. A broadcaster, what, another 12 or 13 years or so as a player, that covers a lot of people and a lot of families in baseball. Such a family-driven sport. You listen to it as a kid with your parents, and it’s all with that same person. Described him earlier as someone you know. He’s Milwaukee’s grandpa in a way, and I think a lot of people are resonating with that sort of sentiment.
